Why doesnt my rabbit stay on my lap and refuse to be picked up?

You just got him...he isnt going to be your best friend right away...try not to handle him...try giving him treats while talking to him. eventually he will know that when he hears your voice he is going to get some goodies and he will not be so afraid. i also suggest listening to your father by putting the cage outside. if you respect an animal like not handling it against its will, it will in turn respect you, making life much easier...good luck
