If someone was to take a crash course in guitar history where would one go?

My guy has a strat, gibson, and les paul(?). He plays in a kinda goth band (?)/indie band. I want to impress him with some musical terminology relating to guitars, playing, bands, etc.. I studied and played the flute and piccolo for almost 20 yrs. so I'm semi am familiar with music terms, but guitar? I haven't got a clue except for the bands I like and the players. HELP!! I want to know his socks off!
